Day 3: Virtual Decluttering

Day 3: Virtual Decluttering

So much excess, everywhere I turn–visually, mentally, emotionally, energetically. Just so much!  It feels really overwhelming at times, like there are tiny energetic strands tying me down to things I no longer care about.

It sounds odd that intangible clutter can weigh you down, but I’m feeling it and have been working on releasing as much as possible these past 2 weeks.

  1. Clearing our 10 years’ worth of AoCP emails, virtual files, and reorganising the database and Google Drive files. A MASSIVE job, but well-worth the effort.
  2. Updating the AoCP website
  3. Getting all the updated info together for a new AoCP Media Kit
  4. A BIG Facebook clear out.

I’m not crazy about Facebook, but use it mainly for the AoCP and to stay in the loop with friends and family overseas. I really would delete the account if I could, but I decided to declutter it instead. I joined FB in 2007, and then in 2009 I opened a new account (for some reason).

It appears I had collected 2,463 ‘friends’ over the past 15 years as my interests developed–veganism, raw veganism, au pair side business, teaching English for 2 decades, contacts, vegan art, etc, etc.. I’ve got that down to about 560 now. Still loads, but it’s a fifth of what I had,and they’re all names of people I know one way or another.

Over the years, I started FB groups on the spur of the moment that eventually became redundant. In fact, there were 24 of them! TWENTY-FOUR!  I’ve whittled it down to 3 relevant groups now, and it feels GREAT!! It’s time-consuming as you have to delete/ban each member (one by one–they don’t make it easy!) until it’s just you left, and then you can delete the group. Now I just have:

  1. AoCP members
  2. CEP members
  3. Secret Santa (for the AoCP members)

I had 19  Facebook pages, although to be fair, most were for AoCP projects. Decluttered that a bit.

Ironically I have a new blog now and an IG account to go with it BUT it’s a tool I’m going to use every day to keep me grounded and focused; a space to think things through and stay accountable. Over the past 20 years, I tried blogging various times (more to declutter),and although it never stuck, I have a feeling it will this time!

Still to declutter:

  • Close/deactivate old IG accounts and personal blogs
  • Declutter personal Drive files
  • Uninstall useless apps on phone
  • Reorganise/delete/declutter email files
